November 15th, 2007 — kit review, trainers
I’m intending to start doing more stuff with this old running blog of mine - including kit reviews (not that I buy much gear… running is cheap after all). In techie blogs, kit unboxings and reviews are common place. For example, Matt Cutts, the public face of google search has recently posted about a new $200 Everex PC. So, I think it’s time the running world followed suit!
I recently (October) bought some new running shoes - a long overdue purchase since I’d been in my last pair of Nikes since January and I think I’d squashed the life out of them. After some quick research I went for a pair of ASICS Gel Stratus Lightning (Mexicali) shoes.…

Lets open them up:

A nice looking running shoe:

A pair of Ascis Gel Stratus:

Snazzy looking, gel cushioned sole. No idea what AHAR means!

The heel view:

Lace and tongue:

I’ve been running in the shoes for about a month now. I guess I haven’t ran more than about 10 or 11k in a single session in them but I find them really comfortable. According to the blurb:
The ASICS GEL Cushioning System has the ability to absorb shock by dissipating vertical impact and dispersing it into a horizontal plane.
…which is handy for a 13+ stone chap like me.
Weighing in at about 700g a shoe (for UK size 10) I find them quite a light shoe. As with lots of running shoes the material uppers won’t keep your feet dry for long if it’s wet out.
I’ll post an update when I’ve completed a longer run in them. It’ll be interesting to see how my toe tips fair in them.
October 15th, 2007 — riversdale rd, running, trainers
Went out today in my new trainers (post to come) which were great but I’m not too happy with my form at the moment. Sneaked inside 40 mins for Riversdale which I’m not made up about, though there was a decent breeze about. Still, warm enough for mid October.

September 20th, 2007 — red rocks, running, trainers
Sneaked out late afternoon to do my third run in as many days. Only had enough time to do Red Rocks and back, on what turned out to be yet another windy day. I can feel my shins a bit and having just checked, I bought my current shoes back in January so it’s time for a shopping trip.

January 3rd, 2007 — hoylake, injury, running, trainers
After yesterdays run I had another bash at it this evening. Bleedin’ windy on the outward leg, really bleedin’ windy that made for a hard effort. Thankfully got to the turn at Red Rocks and sort of got blown home. Didn’t really make the most of it though ‘cos I could feel my trainer rubbing my right heel a fair bit. When I got back home and took the shoe off it was evident why I could feel some discomfort - my sock had a nice red blood stain where the shoe had been rubbing my heel. The lining in the shoe has torn and that must be the cause of the rub. Hadn’t realised that I bought them back in May. Outlet Village (Nike Store) here I come!
