December 12th, 2007 — health
Not ill in the true sense of the word but unfortunately I still haven’t shook off this lingering cold. Not coughing so much now but felt bloody awful yesterday and had a cracking sore throat.
Suppose it shows how much I need to run now - I feel totally unfit and am really looking forward to getting back into my trainers and hitting Hoylake promenade.

Damn and blast!
I’ve got a bleeding annoying cough …the sort that really comes in to it’s own as soon as you lie down in bed. So, a dreadful nights sleep prevailed and now I’ve got a sore chest with all the coughing. See if I can blast it by drinking mugs of hot water with a slice of lemon.
Wasn’t bothered yesterday ‘cos it was so wet but it’s not too bad today and it’s nice and mild. Hey-ho, first cold of the season so that’s not bad going.

Just not quite right today out on my Riversdale Rd loop.
I’ve got a minor upset stomach and just struggled to find my momentum today. As a result I plodded around and didn’t really enjoy it that much. I did set off with the intention of doing about 11km but I got to the bottom of Riversdale and thought sod this, time to go home.
The earlier downpour held off though and the sun came out so can’t grumble!
Forgot to switch my watch off again, so there’s another 7 hours of battery life gone …oops.

July 4th, 2007 — health, work
Been tinkering with wordpress all morning for a little keyless phone project that I’m playing with and I’ve got a headache. So now that I’ve just given google a subtle backlink for the new site I’m going for a run, even though I pulled a back muscle putting my socks on yesterday (agony last night!)

Did my Riversdale Rd circuit today - slowly. I’ve lost a fair amount of fitness having only run about twice in more than 3 weeks. Started off okay into the headwind on the prom but evidently lost time elsewhere ‘cos a 40′ for this circuit is slow for me. Nice to be out though.

Top tip: Don’t wait until you’re 40 to catch chicken pox off one of your daughters - it’s really not nice.
On the mend now. Totally covered in those really attractive, scabbed over blisters and look a bit of a mess but feel alright now otherwise. Now need to load up on cakes to top-up my reserves. Really wish I’d caught chicken pox as a kid when it’s usually less severe (like our 2 have now done) ‘cos it was most unpleasant. Haven’t shaved for a week and will have to wait a couple more days yet for the scabs to go a bit. Least I get to see what I look like with a beard (Dad, it’s not a beard ‘cos you don’t look like Father Christmas) - think I’ll try a goatee too for a laugh.
I can smell that concrete down on the prom!

Chicken pox has really taken hold and I’m covered in spots. And I haven’t been feeling too good either. Bugger!

Have managed to catch the chicken pox off my youngest. Got a few spots but not covered by any means. Feeling a bit ropey today -aching all over and somewhat lethargic. Fortunately I’m nowhere near as bad as everyone has been predicting! Should be back to normal in a day or so I guess.
April 16th, 2007 — health, red rocks, running, weather
After the big-uns of late last week my legs were still a bit tired today. Just had a sensible run to Red Rocks and back with a stopped-the-clock break at the turn to admire the view. A bit cooler than the last few days with a deceptive breeze too. Also, whilst I’m on about the weather I was thinking today that it hasn’t rained for a while - a few lawns are already losing their greenness and I’ve spotted a few people watering lawns with hosepipes already. Now that I’m an allotmenteer I’ll be more interested in rain.
Got my fingers crossed that I don’t catch chicken pox - other half has had it, youngest currently has it, eldest hasn’t had it yet and neither have I. Everyone keeps telling me that it can be quite nasty catching it in adulthood. I’ll be prescribing that well known antidote of brown medicine and plenty of cakes if I do catch it. Nah, I’ll be fine, I only ever get colds!

I’m still struggling to shake off this cold/virus bloody thing. It’s more than a cold because I’ve got a bit of an upset stomach in addition to my not uncommon problems with my sinuses and I just don’t feel 100%.
A bash at this years Liverpool half marathon is not looking likely - I don’t think I’ll be doing myself any good by hammering myself. I could just do another event a bit later on instead maybe.
