Top Percentile
I’ve seen the race results of the 2007 Hoylake 10k and my exploits placed me in the top percentile - the fastest 25% of the participants. Personally, I think that sounds much more impressive than saying that I was actually 92nd out of 500+ and finishing some 11 minutes behind the first man home.
It is taking part that counts of course and top effort to all who ran in that wind.

Well, yes that’s a better word I suppose! Must have been remembering those height & weight charts that recorded the development of your offspring …90th percentile and all that wasn’t it?
