Saturday Morning Amble

Out before 9am this morning for a quick (sorry, I mean slow) trot down to Red Rocks and back before a full-on weekend with the in-laws.

Slow and steady all the way around. Some bloke who I’ve seen at the seaside runs eventually caught and passed me down Stanley Road. We exchanged hello’s anyway.

Outside 26 mins for this one which is somewhat on the ploddy side.

Brrrr !

Bit on the old chilly side today here in West Wirral. Two tops for the first time in ages …I’m in my forties now so I feel the cold ..and it’s still only September.
The stiff wind from the north makes it feel cool and also gives a tailwind upto Kings Gap which isn’t normally the case. Still got a bit of an upset stomach for some reason but I refuse to blame it on my allotment grown toms (must get that blog up-to-date ..and more importantly, the plot too).

Riversdale Rd circuit again today (clockwise). A wind assisted outward leg got me to the top of Riversdale in about (a respectable) 16:45 but it was harder back along the sand and back home. Back on Hoylake beach there was a chap doing stints up and down the sand at a fair old pace …harder going on that wet sand. Anyways, finished just outside 40 mins for todays effort, which is a tad on the slow side but still worthy of a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

Share The Link Love

Come on fellow runners, I need you to love me.

Well I don’t, but this running blog does. If you’re still linking to my old running blog then you’re being very naughty. This new blog needs those links to show google and the boys just how popular it really is.

Running In The Wind

Windy again today, though unusually not in my face as I headed up to Kings Gap - it’s not too often that it’s a tail wind blowing you along on the prom in that direction.

Did a variant of my Riversdale Rd circuit …when I got back to Hoylake roundabout I ran along Market Street rather than back down to the prom where I summised I’d get blown to bits. Bit shorter at about 7.75km. gmap

Not going great at all today and stomach is a bit off.

Top Percentile

I’ve seen the race results of the 2007 Hoylake 10k and my exploits placed me in the top percentile - the fastest 25% of the participants. Personally, I think that sounds much more impressive than saying that I was actually 92nd out of 500+ and finishing some 11 minutes behind the first man home.

It is taking part that counts of course and top effort to all who ran in that wind.

Saturday Afternoon Run

Had enough of doing DIY (painting) so jumped into my trainers and did my Riversdale Rd circuit. When the sun came out it was lovely with only a bit of a breeze up to Kings Gap and most noticeably along the beach upto West Kirby. Wasn’t going too great to start though, with heavy legs making it hard going. But for some reason I managed to pick the pace up a bit for the last 10 minutes or so - maybe ‘cos it was a bit wind assisted. So managed to sneak inside 39 minutes which isn’t too shabby for me.

Red Rocks

Sneaked out late afternoon to do my third run in as many days. Only had enough time to do Red Rocks and back, on what turned out to be yet another windy day. I can feel my shins a bit and having just checked, I bought my current shoes back in January so it’s time for a shopping trip.

Riversdale Road Today

Riverdale Road circuit today for an uneventful run. Interesting to see all the sand yacht stuff going on up by the lifeboat station - a very cosmopolitan Hoylake prom what with French, German, Belgium, etc people all milling around, great stuff!

Warmer than I thought it was. Windy again of course.

Still Windy

I started out with the intention of running the 10k course again, motivated by the (incorrect) assumption that it didn’t look that windy.

Trotted around to the start and headed off. As there was a decent wind blowing again I started off quite fast. The 1km marker was still in place from Sunday and I passed that in 4.04 and went on to hit the mile mark in about 6.15. Then I started to feel it and talked myself into not fancying running back for 3 miles into that headwind again. So mind beat matter and I turned off with the intention down the bridal path and back passed the caravan park.

Just at the top of the path I spotted three Jack Russel dogs, presumably from the adjacent small holding. They saw me too. One of them fancied it’s chances and started to run at me. As I didn’t fancy mine, I turned and sprinted and shouted at it to go away. So, back to Meols along the embankment and up Guffitts Rake, Mumfords Lane and home. About 6km in total I guess.
