I’m Not On The List

So I won’t be running this years Chester Half marathon. Apparently the race quota was reached on 14th March - but you could still apply as late as last week which is a bit daft isn’t it?

Need to take a look in the events listings in runnersworld to see what’s happening locally.

What A Grey Day

hoylake fogI did doubt myself. Then I found this:

Gray is a color.

Grey is a colour.

It was foggy today in old Hoylake town. Has been all day. Bit on the cool side too down on Hoylake Promenade late this afternoon. I took the photo this morning at about 8.20 - the fog has lifted a lot but it is still lingering. What strange weather we’re seeing this week.

Walking eldest to dancing and then did my shortened Riversdale Rd circuit. A little bit slower than I would have preferred. Didn’t real feel like going out today - so I promised myself a homemade scone after tea as a little reward if I went running. I know, I know …but it worked, I went out!

Here Comes The Summer

Weird weather again. Freezing last week, mid teens today. Weather plugin in currently reading 16c for Hoylake. Went out in 2 tops not realising just how warm it was and really noticed it down the beach between Red Rocks and West Kirby (Riversdale Rd circuit today).

Come up with todays post title before remembering that this band came up with the very same:

Sod any copyright issues hey!

Not going too bad, felt a little heavy legged on the damp sand.

Live From The Floral Pavilion

Well, not in a Doddy kind of way - that’s next weekend.

Our daughters had their annual dance show this afternoon at The Floral Pavilion theatre in New Brighton. I watched them both do their little routines (brill!) and then sneaked out early (there’s only so much ballet I can take) to run home.

clark kentHad my shorts on under my jeans and running top under my jacket (Clark Kent style) - left them in the car, faced toward Wales and ran for home. A lot milder today but a fair bit windier than I thought it was.

Not going too bad I suppose, getting back to my usual standards perhaps. Rather suspect right now I’d rapidly wilt if I were to run that bit further though (like the Liverpool Half in the morning).

If I get accepted in the Chester event then I’ve got about 6 weeks (20-May) to prepare for it.

Missed The Sunshine

Went out late this afternoon today by which time the glorious sunshine that had been around all day had gone. Bit cool too. Wind had lost its puff at last.

Did my Riversdale Rd circuit though truncated by say 500m because I walked my daughter round to dancing first. Battery went flat on my Navman so I’m not sure of actual distance. Plodded my way round admiring the clear views of Hilbre Island and the North Wales coast. Did the beach on the outward leg today.

Tad Windy That

Not quite as windy as yesterday but another blustery day today in Hoylake. Actually, as the wind was more northerly than the normal north westerly it wasn’t quite as bad as it can be on Hoylake prom. Few fences blown out in various front gardens though.

Bit of faffing today ‘cos the zip went on my top after a couple of minutes (couldnt fix it en-route) and I was running round in a cape when I didn’t keep tight hold of it. Didn’t go far. Just did my Red Rocks circuit today, which was enough in the wind.

A Bit More

Did my Marine Lake loop today. Picked the wrong time of day to go ‘cos the sunshine had gone and it had turned cool. Fortunately the rain held off until I literally arrived back at home. Still slowish but hey ho, on the way up I suppose. Proper headphones on my Sony mp3 were stacks better than the cheapo pair I bought from Tesco. No running tomorrow - checking my broadbeans.

Steady As He Goes

Did my Riverdale Rd loop today. Wasn’t expecting to go great and I didn’t. Steady, but not particularly speedy. Exactly a month ago I did this same circuit over 2 minutes faster. Bit of a breeze about but mild and bright. Nice to be out.

Liverpool vs Chester

Disappointing though it is, I’ve taken the decision not to run the Liverpool Half Marathon.

Although I’ve been “looking foward” to it for a long while, with my recent drop in form due to the dreaded lurgee I’d just be totally hammering myself. And as I find distance running hard enough as it is, that’s not too appealing. Best of luck to Steve and the other chaps in his gang.

So, plan B. The 2007 Chester Half Maraton in May. On the assumption I can get in (will enter tomorrow) I’ll have enough time to get myself back into reasonable shape.

Talking of getting the miles in. After reading about Steves’ mate Matt banging a 100 in (I subscribe to Matts’ blog) on his road bike, I’ve got to admit the temptation to get back into being a roadie is certainly there. It’s not safe though is it on our manic roads? Last time I was really into it I didn’t have anyone to think about other than myself. Getting knocked off (which has happened, luckily not hurt at all) wouldn’t only affect me now. But I do fancy it.
