Out On 2 Wheels Today

Just couldn’t be bothered with running today. My legs are still stiff (poor recovery or what?), I was hungry and it was dead windy. So I got the bike out of the garage and went out for just a short ride (about 6 miles) for some fresh air.

Seeing as how it was windy I decided to go down to Marine Lake to watch the wind surfers. When I got there however there was only one surfer on the water ! Stopped for a few minutes anyway and then came home. Think I’ll do the Wirral Way next week.

Nice Day For It

After a rest from running yesterday (though did do 10m bike ride to New Brighton with Sarah) I was back in my trainers today. Didnt feel at my sharpest so didnt do much - just did my Red Rocks circuit.

A lovely day in Hoylake today, not much wind, sunny and really quite warm. There were a few sun seekers down on the sand just off Hoylake prom.

Liverpool Tunnel 10k

Following last weekends 10k effort it was time for Liverpool Tunnel 10k today.

An interesting course…a bit of road around Liverpool before dropping down a slip road and in to the Wallasey (Kingsway) Tunnel. I’ve driven through this tunnel umpteen times but this was my first time without a car. Warm, surprisingly fumeless, windless and down hill for a decent whack before rising to the opening. Maybe over-cooked it on the downhill because I was passing runners that had previously passed me. Its a steepish climb and I was really struggling by the time I exited the tunnel. Then it was around a few dock roads to Seacombe Ferry and along the front to a New Brighton finish and a cheering family. It was warm in the sun along the prom and I was sweating buckets and my eyes were stinging like crazy with the sweat.

Started well. Noted the 3km mark in the tunnel at 12.06. Then I slowed climbing out of the tunnel and went through halfway in 22 and a bit. It was wind assisted along Seacombe prom which helped a little. But at the finish I was disappointed that I missed out on a sub 45. Hey ho.

Not a bad event. Free train travel. Medal. Goody bag. Bottles of water. Closed roads. Hope they promote it next year.

A Better Run Today

After giving it a miss yesterday (did some gardening instead) I ran around my trusty Red Rocks circuit today. Going better, though my legs still dont feel 100%. As a precaution, I’ll go to the pub tonight and take some brown medicine…you cant be too careful.

A nice and sunny day today in Hoylake. There is still a decent breeze about, but its coming straight off the beach today and didnt bother me too much.

Slow Going Today

After a rest yesterday I went out today. Legs were stiffer than yesterday so decided to do my Red Rocks circuit.

The strong headwind up to Kings Gap made it even harder going and by the end of the prom I was already about 40 secs slower than normal. Continued to trudge down to Red Rocks where I stopped the watch to admire the view. Ran home with the tail wind for a slow-un.

Event Diary

I’ve got the Tunnel 10K this Sunday.
Plan to do the Seaside on the 17th - the week after.
And that’s going to be my lot for this season, racing wise.
Then it’ll be time to start doing some decent training.

Hoylake 10km

It was the annual Hoylake 10km this morning. I’d decided to be non-committal…wake up, check the weather, check my legs, make a decision. I decided to go for it, despite the strong wind that would hit me on the homeward leg. The course is a dead straight out and back, starting on the prom at Hoyle Road and out to a bit past Leasowe Lighthouse and back. Its not all on the embankment as you switch over to the bridal track - some of which is awkward under foot.

Started well. 1KM in 4.00. 2km in 8.01. 3km in 12.21. Slowed a bit on the bridal path and got to the turn in a bit of 21 mins. Then the wind hit me on the return. When its windy around here its windy !

Not made up with the final time but I suppose its training for next weeks Tunnel 10K
