A Bit Sluggish Today

Wasn’t going too great today with my legs being tired after what has been a decent weeks mileage for me.

Just sneaked out to do my Red Rocks circuit.

A Run In The Rain

After spending an hour or so with Sarah looking at VAT regulations for transactions between EU member countries for our internet business I needed a break so even though it was raining I went out. As it turned out it it stopped about half way around.

Did my Riversdale Road circuit today. The beach at West Kirby was good - not a soul (or sole even) to be seen. Wasnt going mad, just trying to be steady all the way. Lower back still not right….whinge, moan, etc

Royden Park Try Out

Went to Royden Park today for a try out.

Not too bad. A few people about. A few dogs about but only a couple gave me that you’re lunch look. Its a bit like trails running under foot and a bit lumpy over the broken sandstone bits. You can run uphill gradually to the top of Thurstaston Hill for some great views of West Wirral, the River Dee and the North Wales coast.

Had a bit of an iffy back again today with a dull ache in my lower back that seemed to spread around to my legs. Poor posture at my desk maybe. Or a decent office chair is needed.

Not bad and worth a return mid-week visit.

Not bothered with the speed today as I messed about quite a bit stopping and starting.

Another Longer One

Another lovely day and another longer run. With a new battery in the Navman I decided to retrace most of yesterdays route - which wasn’t 12k, and not even 11k I guess …I thought that ave speed seemed way to high.

Could certainly feel yesterdays miles in my legs. I’m not particularly bothered with the average speed (being some 10 mins off my last 10k time), I’m more interested in packing longer runs in to build up my aerobic capacity and stamina. I strolled past a few people when passing walkers on Marine Lake. Probably have a rest day tomorrow and then go back out on Thursday.

Route: Up to West Kirby, down Dee Lane, along West Kirby prom and around Marine Lake (just about dry today, but only just), and then back along the beach to Red Rocks and home via Barton Road.

Back Out Today

Back out in my trainers today for my first proper run in a week. Lovely day for it too.

Headed up to West Kirby, down Dee Lane and the along the prom with the intention of running back around Marine Lake. But with the tide being in it didnt take me long to get soaked attempting to straddle the lapping water on the lake wall - u-turn required. Then back along to Red Rocks along the beach and home.

Not sure of the distance as the Navman has either (a) got a flat battery or (b) switched itself off along the way. Most probably (a). 12k approx’ish or something like that. Edit: Call it 10.8 km

Cronin In Shock Injury Scare

Don’t know quite how I’ve done it but I’ve acquired a really sore, back muscle strain. It bothered me a bit yesterday (hence the easy trot) and it’s no better today - so no running today.

If I just move in a certain way it really hurts with a sharp pain coming from under my right shoulder. I’ll just have to wait for it to go as quick as it came. If I don’t go out tomorrow then it’ll be Monday before I’ll have an opportunity - I’m on Dad duties all this weekend.

When I am back out, I’m going to go to Royden Park - a local, popular National Trust woodland - and see if I can map out a couple of loop circuits. I need some other places to run apart from the North Wirral coast line. Royden Park would make a nice change but I suspect free running dogs (and more-so their daft owners) might be a problem.

Just A Trot Today

Nothing much at all today.

Just did a gentle run around Meols with Sarah for no more than 20 minutes.

No watch. No Polar.

Just A Bit Of A Run Today

Didnt 100% feel like it today but the weather was nice and the forecast is for rain over the next couple of days.

Did my Red Rocks circuit and stopped the clock at the turn to take in the view.

Sunday Morning Seaside Event

I ended up running (family coming along too) this months seaside event , one that didn’t appeal to as many runners as normal. A grey old morning with rain just before the start and a slight headwind to run in to.

Started off fast today and was running not that much behind the leaders for about 2/3 of a mile. I went through the mile mark in a little over 6 minutes and soon paid for it because I started to really feel it and at one point I had to slow it right down to sort my breathing out. I struggled to get in to it again after that and finished outside a ‘20′. The speed is there but the stamina is lagging behind - more training required. Never mind, more training = more cakes.

My girls said it was boring because there was nothing to see at the finish and you dont get a medal either.

Running In The Rain

Met up with Mike again for our monthly run (we did the Appleton Park loop). To say it was raining would be an under statement! As Mikes post says it was absolutely pouring down for the whole of our run. I’m quite proud of myself because I wouldnt normally run in such wet conditions - should do a bit more running in the rain, it wasnt too bad.

Mike was going well today - once he’d opened a gap on the downhill, it stayed that way until the finish. Mind you, he always tries that bit harder when I run with him.

Trainers should be dry by the middle of next week.
