Devon Dawdles
Back from our hols in South Devon. Never been before…very nice, would go again. Stayed about 10 mins drive outside Kingsbridge in South Hams. Good weather in the main, very clean sea water and chips out of the paper on the beach for lunch one day! Children had a great time. Traffic on M5/M6 not the best though.
Went for a couple of gentle, short runs along some of the lanes by our rented place. Didnt really fancy running along the main road/lane because it was so narrow with no pavement and it didnt feel safe when the odd car drove past so I went along some very quiet farmers lanes. It was quite hilly - they don’t seem to do “flat” in Devon. The Navman seemed to play up, probably because of the high hedge cover along the lanes.

Just a quick run out today
Supposed to be doing other things today, but I fancied some fresh air so I had a quick run out. The view over to North Wales was great today - some days, even on a cloudy day like today, Hilbre Island and the Welsh coast just look so vivid. The breeze had tempted a couple of kite flyers and sand yachters too.
I’ve just calculated my ave speed…not bad that. Must check that distance again though…didn’t think I was going at that pace. I noticed that I was approx 30s slower to the end of the prom compared with yesterdays bash.
Slight aside. Even though Mike provided a simple c# .exe (good effort!) to use, for a while now I’ve been using this site to calculate my speed. About time I knocked up a running site of my own I think. Maybe even do a calculator myself, all sexy and AJAXy (using the google tool kit). Can’t be that hard can it, even for an old COBOL tart like me? Having said that, this was me, taken after my run today. Yeah, worrying isn’t it?
Didn’t go far today anyway, just down to Beach Road and back. There’s a sub 18 to be had on this course.
Off to Devon next week on our hols. I’m taking my either foot socks, trainers, Polar and Navman….well you never know!

A bit more like it
Decided to have a bit of a go today. Well the weather has perked up a bit and I didn’t go out yesterday. So, I did a little bit of a warm up and then did my Red Rocks and back route. It wasn’t race type effort but having a good go anyway.
I’m reasonably pleased with the time and my average speed is actually faster than last weeks poor seaside attempt. I think that’s a PB time too, but as I haven’t been keeping my spreadsheet up-to-date, I’ll have to do a little bit of admin to confirm that.

Sand in my toes…and my eyes
There’s a decent breeze out today. Headed off along Hoylake prom but needed to turn up the side roads because I was getting loads of sand in my eyes that was blowing up the road.
So, up Hoyle, along Avondale, Clydesdale, Back Sea View, Alderley, Valentia and then back en-route at Kings Gap. Up Meols Drive to Riversdale, down to the beach, along the soft sand (which went in my trainers) and in to a head wind to the bottom of Stanley Road, up to the top and then finally blown home along the prom for 5 minutes. Not quite as far as planned but enough. Didn’t go mad and really slowed anyway along the soft sand.
