Riversdale Rd Loop - Almost Uneventful

After my last run on this circuit everything was going fine today. Then down on the beach a dog saw me. I didn’t think it was bothered at first. But it was. It was a kind of big wire haired kind of dog. Lots of barking to begin with so I just carried on running. Then it sort of got in front of me so I had to stop. Getting a little worried now. It barked some more and showed some teeth. Tried not to exhibit fear as I backed away and dunked my foot in a pool. As usual, the owner stands still to begin with….”Jaws darling, come to mummy, there’s a good little dog”. Eventually, she gets hold of its collar and puts the lead on.

phew…very close shave that one!

A Wet Night For The Seaside

So I wasn’t at all bothered that I wasn’t there.

I’d already emailed Steve to say that I was off out to the cinema with the girls for the afternoon (to see Cars - good animation but not the greatest film). Now I did get back home with enough time to get myself sorted and get down to the start. But it was dull as dirty dishwater and it was raining quite steady - autumn is on its way fellas - so I stayed at home and enjoyed a tasty family tea instead.

Should be up for a run tomorrow though.

Another 3 Days Off

A second week of having 3 days off.

Decent breeze out today, so much so that I avoided the prom on the way out to avoid getting sand blasted.

Didn’t do much today as I hope to find the time to do tomorrows Seaside event - so Red Rocks loop was enough today, steady as she goes.

A Strange Run That

After a couple of days of family outings I was back on the pavements and shores of Hoylake today. Picked up a minor muscle pull in my side after messing about in our local swimming baths with my eldest - it bothered me at first then eased off.

Did my Riversdale Road loop (only clockwise) today and it turned out a bit strange (ok, I did have 3 pints of Bombardier the night before in The Ship).

First off, running along Hoylake prom some young mum obviously recognised me ‘cos she smiled and said Hi - no idea who she was (apologies if I know you!). Then I passed one of my mates vans (he sells them) that was covered in eggs (kids eh!). All was then well until I got on the beach at West Kirby. One mature lady, chatting with mobile to ear along with a bag of dog poo in same hand (lovely). Then a bloke, sort of running and hopping around the pools in the sand - very strange but he was really moving. Then a few yards further on a 3 legged dog appears. Back on to Stanley Road then with 2.7km to go. A flash Merc waits in the road whilst his electric gates open - as I run past he stares then smiles at me. Whilst I don’t know him personally I know what he does (we were once interested in buying his old house) - brain surgeon - honest ! So up Stanley Road, passing the single wolly glove on the wall that was there the other day, to home.

If only the Fullers Pride had been on tap.

Strange indeed.

10K Dead today

Fancied a longer run today. Nice day for a change - not much wind, sunny, warm and shock, horror it wasn’t raining.

Decided to do a sort of private trial and do a 10k. So, trotted down to the prom, got myself sorted and headed off toward Leasowe Lighthouse. I sort of new whereabouts the 5km split would be and I ended up just going about 100m or so past that to the sandstone wall with the turret thingy that you pass on the seaside run. Turned around and headed for home and stopped dead at 10k.

Started off well enough; 6.40 for the first mile; 19.30 for 4.45 km and about 22 something at the turn. Faded a bit though on the way back and by the time I’d done the distance I’d had more than enough. I was feeling really hungry too which didnt help.

Probably have a day off tomorrow - off on a family outing.

3 Days Off Must Be Too Much

First run since last Thursdays effort and wasnt going too great. Had a stitch on the outward leg and just didnt feel that brill all the way round. Still, final time wasn’t too bad I suppose by my standards. I know…I will blame it the bloke who had the cheek to interupt my run to ask me eh mate, wheres Red Rocks? I managed to point toward Hilbre Island and say that way, drive down Stanley Road to get there.

Decent breeze about today that I felt on the way out but then when looking at the flag on the lifeboat station on the return the wind was coming straight off-shore at almost 90 degrees (how do you enter a degree char?) to the prom.

I hope to sneak a longer session in tomorrow. Red Rocks and back today.

My 100th post!

This my 100th post since I started my first blog back in April - must be worth a minor celebration with a beer later. I’ve quite enjoyed this blogging lark so far and by drifting off into related topics I’ve learnt quite a bit too.

Anyways, met up with Mike today for a run following my monthly light trim. Mike is struggling with his knee a bit still - bit more healing time required by the looks to get back to full steam.

West Kirby to home

After a couple of family errands this morning in West Kirby I ran around the lake and the home.

Had my kit with me …. apart from the transmitter for my Polar, so no heart rate figures for this session.

The route: along West Kirby prom to the sailing club, around Marine Lake, then along the beach to Red Rocks, up Stanley Road, Barton Road and home.
