Bit warm today!

That’s actually a slight under-statement because it was really warm today.

Hoylake is starting to buzz because the practise rounds for the Open have begun in earnest. I think I saw Nick Faldo today as I ran passed the course, but then I couldn’t see too well because of the sweat in my eyes so it might have been a car-park attendant in a polo shirt.

Wasn’t going brill today…so I’ll blame it on the heat.

84 Lamp Posts

Missed out on a run yesterday (poor time management on my part, plus Dad duties) but managed to sneak a session today.

Did a bit of speed work as a result of some inspiration from the Open Golf. Hoylake Promenade is being used as a coach park for the week of the golf and every other lamp post has been assigned a smart sign with a number on it. Having noticed these signs I thought it would be a good idea to use them as markers for a bit of speed work. The highest number was twenty but I made it 21 in order to end on a hard bit.

So, as a warm up I ran down the bottom of Kings Gap and then returned a bit to Hoylake Life Boat station. Then at the first lamp post after the life boat slipway I started the intervals…hard for 2 posts then jog for 2 posts. The last hard blast took me to the post just on the red tarmac on Meols Prom. Jogged to the life guard hut and returned. Then do the sessions in reverse ending with the last session to the post just passed the lift boat slipway. I did need to walk in some of the jog segments but in the blast segments I was working hard in everyone.

Jog to the bottom of Kings Gap and then home.

I ended up with a reasonable 7.92km

A Run With An Injured Mr S

Met up with Mike this lunchtime for our monthly meet up for a blast around Stretton.

However with Mike suffering from a dodgy left knee we took it nice and steady - it’s not often we have a chat when we run. Quite enjoyable actually.

Bit tired today, but still did a bit

Bit tired after yesterdays leg killer, but not too bad.

Ended up doing a couple of miles of walking in the morning to pre-school, shops, post office etc and the old legs felt a bit stiff. Actually, most noticeable ache wise are the tops of my feet.

Decided to go out before tea, down to Red Rocks - mainly to have a nose at the final preparations for next weeks Open Golf. Wasn’t going brill but have been worse:

A long one for a Monday

I’m regretting it a little bit now but I went for a longer run this afternoon. Sort of felt like this morning, then went off the idea but finally said “oh sod it”.

A lot cooler than last week. Bit breezy on the beach and up to West Kirby sailing club. It rained a bit too.

The route: to Red Rocks, along the sand to Riverdale Rd (4.3km); along West Kirby prom to the sailing club; up to the Moby Dick (it’s a pub!) then around Caldy; back to West Kirby; down Dee Lane; and retrace along the beach to Red Rocks and home. By which time my right hip was playing up a bit.

Great views from West Kirby of Hilbre Island and the North Wales coast line.

Wasn’t going for it all speed wise - evidently. I just wanted to bang the distance in. Sore legs now and a very hungry tummy (though that’s nothing unusual !)…good job it’s nearly time for tea. Just need to get the little darlings in bed first.

Day off today

Took a planned day off from running today.

Which wasn’t great planning ‘cos the weather is much more runner friendly today.

Hey ho!

Have I said it is windy in Hoylake?

I do believe I have. Well recently, during my plodding up and down Hoylake prom I’ve noticed a huge rig type thing out in the River Mersey. There’s also been this dull thudding sound in the background at certain times of the day and evening.

I thought it was an exploration rig searching for gas then a friend of ours mentioned that she thought a new batch of wind turbines were being constructed.

And after a little searching….

work is now underway on a new £100m wind farm. Currently the foundations are been laid for 25 wind turbines that will form the Burbo Offshore Windfarm, which will eventually provide enough energy to power 72,500 homes. This explains the banging.

Hot again

Hot again today, though slightly better than yesterday.

Wasn’t going to bother today but talked myself in to it by 1 o’clock and decided to do my brickworks circuit. Actually, I’m not sure that I’ll continue with this route because it isn’t that great. Crossing the train line is an opportunity for an unplanned stop if a train is coming and then immediately running past (for only a minute though) Meols water treatment plant is a bit pongy - even with the odour abatement measures - tactfully put. Thinking about it, I wonder if some of that greyer-than-grey water has come from me? Not nice.

Actually, I felt like I was going alright today out of the sun. I was dripping wet with sweat when I got home.

Red Rocks and back today. Measured with the Navman and coming in 150m less than when I measured it on my bike.

Tunnel Vision

I think I’ll have a bash at this and get some of those lingering exhaust fumes in my system. The free train ride over to Liverpool is a jolly nice idea.

Just need to confirm with my social secretary.
