Another seaside run
Bit of bi-athlon really.
Rode down to Leasowe Lighthouse on my old Marin Muirwoods this evening. It’s only 2 and a bit miles and hardly takes any longer than in the car.
Actually, using the car is something we try to do less of nowadays. Since I handed my company car back when I gladly said cheerio and best wishes to my last employer we’ve just had the one car. It’s easy to manage 95% of the time because my work is now home based and it saves on the cost of financing a car that we currently just don’t need. I rescued my old Marin mountain bike from the junk in the garage and I’m now using it for pottering around Hoylake. I’m not keen on using my Rift Zone for that because it might tempt someone to try and pinch it.
Anyway, I locked my bike to a signpost and did a bit of warmup then, with water bottle in hand for the return trip I ran the seaside. I started off well enough, purposely a little slower than previous races, with the first mile covered in approx 6:35. But then I slowed and to be honest I didn’t push it at all once I knew that I was on a slow-un. Ended up doing 21:50 - my worst PB I think. Sod it!
It was warm but not unbearable though a few blokes went topless. I gladly passed the finish line and then run+walked back to my bike. Followed by a bike ride back home for a shower, tea and brown medicine.
The stats:
Start:18:58
Duration:21:50
Distance:4.92km
Ave speed:13.52 kph
399 kcal (including a bit of the run back)
HRmax=200/ave=131 (inc. run back)

Sometimes your time is not the most important thing.
It’s the taking part, the exercise itself, and the kcals burned.
Don’t forget that you cycled to the event. Did a warm up. Ran the race, and then then trotted back again, before cycling home.
You earned your brown medicine!

Sometimes it’s the turning up that’s the important thing
